Description: The Carpenter's Boat Shop is an open and affirming intentional community designed around a tuition-free 9-month apprenticeship program committed to traditional wooden boatbuilding, seamanship, and service. For decades, The Carpenter's Boat Shop has provided a safe harbor for people from around the country who are navigating the seas of transition from a variety of life circumstances, including; from college to career, aimlessness to new directions, prison to society, marriage to single-hood, or work to retirement. Our apprentices learn to build small wooden boats (8-17') for rowing and sailing, and they also learn the basics of wooden boat restoration. Our signature products are the Monhegan Skiff, an easy to row and tow tender, and Joel White's Catspaw Dinghy. We also build to order other traditional wooden boats native to the New England Coast. In the summertime, we offer 1-week classes in boatbuilding and woodworking. Please stop by and see us!
June 16 2022 Update: With heavy hearts, Phin and I have concluded that we are overwhelmed by the continuing impediments that confront a successful effort and are resigned to join the numerous other efforts that have thrown their hands up. For this reason, the 2022 Maine Boatbuilders Show is officially cancelled.
